Brendan Geary

JUNIOR INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

Hello! My name is Brendan and I am multidisciplinary creator, who is passionate about human-centric design. Choosing to study industrial design was an obvious career choice to me because of how I operate: I problem-solve, I engineer, and I create. I value design because it acts a catalyst for life. The products we choose to surround ourselves with enhance our identity and allow us to navigate our way throughout the world as we search to find deeper meanings within ourselves. A good product is one that blends into every day life, one that simply enhances your day-to-day.

What I Do Best

CAD Modeling

3D modeling is core to my identity as an industrial designer. Here I am able to bring my ideas and creations to life. After modeling, my products go to keyshot for a polished and refined look.

DFMA

I specialize in developing products that are designed to be manufactured. From ideation to prototyping, I prioritize the legitimacy of the manufacturing process and ensure production flows seamlessly.

Product Research

What is a good product without the proper research that goes behind it? From user research to competitive analysis, I always ensure there is definitive reasoning behind my design choices.

Outside of Design...

The jack-of-all-trades thing really does squeeze it’s way into every aspect of my life: I have so many hobbies that I don’t have time for them, but that doesn’t stop me… I am too ambitious for that.

Marching Illini

Since grade school, I have been playing the trombone, and never would 10 year old me have guessed that I would be playing with the trombones at a BIG10 University in front of hundreds of thousands of people across all the games I have participated in.

Not only was I a member of the Marching Illini, but I had the privilege of leading the trombones as their Marching Section Leader. I was chosen for this role by my Director, Barry Houser, and the votes of the members of the trombone section. In my role, I lead 40+ trombonists, teaching them the fundamentals of marching and training them throughout the year. I was also in charge of making critical decisions when faced with predicament, sometimes making game-time decisions on the field.

I couldn’t be more grateful for this role because it gave me the opportunity to travel. In the four years I was a part of this band, the Illinois football team traveled to three bowls: the Reliaquest Bowl, the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, and the Music City Bowl. In March 2026, we traveled to Ireland to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin. That was one of the coolest experiences of my life, and I will forever be grateful for all the opportunity the Marching Illini has provided me.

Music

Music has always played a huge role in my life. I believe music is one of the most powerful ways to align yourself with your emotions, whether that is through listening or expression. In my senior year of college, I started a band with a few of my friends playing hits like Misery Business by Paramore and Santaria by Sublime. To your right is an image of me soloing on my tele. And yes that is real blood, I fought a bear before the show…

Gardening

Since freshman year, I have taken on gardening as one of my hobbies. Over the last few seasons, I have grown various peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and an array of herbs, of which I went on to share the literal fruits of my labor with my family. I have done this with one premade herb garden bed, and two disassemblable plant beds I designed and built myself with reclaimed wood. I also make my own pickles. I think that is a whole other hobby in itself.
